We hear it every time we turn around these days as women and mothers. Take a break! Schedule some ‘Me Time’! Break out of your rut! To be honest hearing these proclamations just made me feel like I had three more things to worry about each week. Then one day while looking at my same old weekly To Do list I suddenly heard all of these statements in a different way.
Take a break suddenly became schedule a date night (maybe even two!)!! Find some Me Time now sounded like what is one thing that I want to do today?? Break out of that rut became what have I never tried before?? I took a step back and decided it was in fact time for me to break some of my routines and quick before I fainted from the boredom of my everyday grind. Why shouldn’t my husband and I try all those restaurants we’ve made note of in the last year? Why not pencil in just one thing I want each day even if it’s simply picking up my favorite ice cream at the store instead of the kids flavor of choice? And who in the heck is stopping me from literally repelling out of my slump as I glide down a rock face wearing
a complicated mess of ropes and cool shoes with an instructor cheering me on? The answer?? No one!
This revelation changed the way I thought about a lot of things that day and I was on a mission to liven my life up one way or the other! I started a hunt for things high and low that made my heart skip a beat with the thrill of trying something new or intriguing and I’ve never looked back. I will never regret starting to actually put myself first and checking some things off my That Would Be Awesome List. Who knew I wanted to try so many new things and would meet so many awesome new people in the process? Not me!
Sometimes I have to squeeze things into a tighter time frame but I’ll tell you one thing for sure, my To Do list is a lot more exciting these days. Here’s to life changes both big and small and doing things that make us yell “Wooooooohooooooo!” once in a while!
